Celebrating over 80 years of the holiday tradition.
Detroit's Thanksgiving parade, a tradition for over 80 years, originated from Hudson's, the iconic downtown department store. In 1924, the parade made its debut on Woodward Avenue, coinciding with the start of Macy's parade in New York
City.
The inaugural Thanksgiving parade in Detroit showcased horses pulling a float adorned with Mother Goose, featuring four papier-mâché heads and seven marching bands. Since then, the parade has expanded in scale and spectacle, captivating millions of spectators along its two-mile Woodward route with oversized balloons, floats, marching bands, cartoon figures, celebrities, and additional attractions.
