About Arts Alleys

Manistique/Treehouse
ACE is partnering with Manistique Community Treehouse Center and community members in Jefferson Chalmers to support their environmental arts projects. The Arts Alley will tie together the existing solar power station, creative empowerment garden and proposed ADA-compliant tree house structure.

Old Redford Alley
The Old Redford/Artist Village Alley is the anchor for one of the city's busiest arts districts. The project will honor long-standing work being done by Detroit Blight Blusters, Sidewalk Detroit, and the Platform. The district’s main anchors are the Artist Village, the Old Redford Theater, the Obama Building and The Triangle.

Shulze Alley
The Schulze Alley is a residential arts alley located between West Outer Drive and West McNichols Road. This residential alley has already received improvements including rain barrels, pollinator gardens, vegetable planters, and pedestrian amenities from The Neighborhood Association, the block club overseeing the area.

Bagley Alley
The Bagley Alley in Southwest Detroit is uniquely connected to the community by its location next to the Roberto Clemente Recreation Center. The alley will become part of a major expansion that includes a new youth activity space.

Grand River Alley
The Grand River Alley runs from Vinewood St to Taft St between Grand River Ave and I-94, this commercial alley borders one of the city's most iconic arts installations, the DABLS Bead Museum and arts garden.

The Yellow Brick Road Alley
Located in Jefferson Chalmers this alley is the 10-year dream of Detroit native Victoria Thomas and her neighbors who wanted a safe place for kids to learn African American history and to ride their bikes after a young neighbor was killed in a tragic accident. The alley will feature history panels and murals and adjoin the Phillis Wheatley library, which operates out of a neighbor’s backyard.

The Alkebu-lan Village Alley
Located in northeast Detroit, this alley celebrates Alkebu-lan Village, the 45-year-old organization that works with kids. Alkebu-lan is transforming their entire neighborhood, and our Alley project is a part of that transformation. The project will feature The Burrell Trail, which honors Quartez and Cortez Burrell, two brothers and Alkebu-lan Village youth who died in a devastating house fire in 2015. See their story here.

The North End Alley
The North End Alley will be the city’s first Agri-Arts Alley. It is anchored by the Oakland Avenue Urban Farm in partnership with artists from the Oakland Avenue Artists Coalition. This green alley will complement the Oakland Avenue Farmer’s Market, North End Resource Center, Oakland Avenue Cooperative Greenhouse, and Black Bottom Garden Center. The alley is funded in part by the Knight Foundation.

Bailey Park Alley
The Bailey Park Alley is in the heart of the historic McDougall-Hunt neighborhood. It will build upon work done by the Bailey Park Neighborhood Development Corporation and the McDougall Hunt Neighborhood Association. Long-time resident Katrina Watkins and a strong cadre of McDougall Hunt residents have envisioned the alley as part of a new community park that will be equal parts museum, art gallery and front porch oral history.
