Detroit Artists Market (DAM) is back. After a six-month closure caused by severe flooding in January, the DAM is reopening its doors with a public celebration on Saturday, July 26, from 1–5 p.m., and the debut of its annual all-media exhibition Hot DAM! with featured artist Jeff Schofield.

But this isn’t just a return, it’s a reset. Behind the scenes, DAM has used this period of disruption to deepen its commitment to Detroit’s creative community through expanded offsite programming and a complete overhaul of one of its core initiatives: the Featured Artist Program.
“This is not just our space—it’s yours,”  said Executive Director Miah J. Davis Gardner. “We spent these months investing in what matters most: our artists, our partners, and the future of Detroit Artists Market.”
Six Months of Creative Momentum
Even without a gallery, DAM continued to present a full schedule of exhibitions and programs:
  • GIRLHOOD, hosted at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit (March 14–April 6), drew one of DAM’s largest audiences in recent years and included a poetry workshop with Kresge Fellow Jassmine Parks.
  • The 2025 Annual Scholarship Exhibition, held at the Detroit Historical Museum (April 26–May 25), showcased 10 Wayne State University student artists and awarded scholarships to six recipients.
  • DOPE Women in Media, postponed due to the flood, opened June 20 at College for Creative Studies Center Galleries and runs through August 1.
