Detroit Public Theatre (DPT) launches its 2025–26 season with the Michigan premiere of Here There Are Blueberries, a powerful new play conceived by Moisés Kaufman and written by Kaufman and Amanda Gronich. Directed by Amy Marie Seidel, the production is presented in partnership with Gary L. Wasserman and Wasserman Projects, and marks the first licensed U.S. production of the acclaimed Tectonic Theater Project work.

Based on true events, Here There Are Blueberries begins when a mysterious album of never-before-seen World War II-era photographs arrives at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in 2007. As curators investigate the images, they uncover haunting truths about those behind the camera — revealing unsettling questions about complicity, humanity, and morality.

Los Angeles Times critic Charles McNulty called the play “the greatest detective story ever written,” while Anderson Cooper remarked, “It makes all of us ask the question...what am I capable of doing?”

“When the opportunity to bring this play to Detroit came to us, we were deeply honored,” said Sarah Clare Corporandy, DPT’s Founding Producing Artistic Director. “It’s a fascinating and profoundly relevant piece that invites us to reflect on history and ask what we are capable of — both then and now.”

The cast features Eric Gutman, Diane Hill, Artun Kircali, Kate McClaine, Rebecca Rose Mims, Sam Reeder, Cheryl Turski, and Ron Williams.

Design credits include scenic design by Sarah Pearline, lighting by David Shocket, sound by Salvador C. Zamora, costumes by Christianne Myers, projections by Jeromy Hopgood, and props by Sarah Ackerman. Angeline Ayriss serves as production stage manager, with Jwymon Williams as assistant stage manager, Liv Morris as assistant director, and Julie Bonema as costume assistant.
