The City of Detroit celebrated the past and present at a press conference announcing that the Detroit Mural City Mural Map has surpassed 300 murals documented.

City of Detroit Deputy Mayor Todd Bettison announced that the 300th mural on the map was painted by the late eminent artist Charles McGee and restored decades later by iconic muralist Dr. Hubert Massey. The untitled mural can be found on the east side of the Foundation Hotel at 234 W. Larned St. Detroit. Charles McGee's career spanned seven decades. Detroit ACE launched the mural earlier initiative this year, announcing the mural map, which features biographies of artists, and an app that allows iPhone users to identify murals where they are. Android users should visit detroitartsandculture.com, click on the mural map, and the map will use GPS to pinpoint your location and identify the mural.

The mural announcement was done at the opening of the Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club weekly showcase where more than 70 artists gave presentations on their work and sold some pieces. The Breakfast Club was founded in 2009 by Henry Harper and Harold Braggs to let artists of all statures are share two pieces of art that can be purchased.

The Fine Arts Breakfast Club meets Mondays at 5 p.m. in the Madame Cadillac building at Marygrove Conservancy, home to the Detroit Youth Choir, Shakespeare in Detroit, the City Office of Arts, Culture and Entrepreneurship and many other creatives.
