Detroit ACE is Partnering on the 40th Anniversary Celebration of Alkebu-lan Village a Youth Development Organization that is Rebuilding the East Side
The City Office of Arts, Culture, and Entrepreneurship (Detroit ACE) proudly supports Alkebu-lan Village as it marks 40 years of dedicated development in the Harper-Van Dyke neighborhood. Founded in 1978, Alkebu-lan Village is now 46 years old and has been actively redeveloping for the past 40 years. Partnering with Detroit ACE, the organization is transforming its residential alley next to the Village as one of nine “Arts Alleys” across the city.
The public is invited to the anniversary celebration on August 3, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the village, 7701 Harper Avenue, Detroit, MI 48213. Tours begin at 1 p.m., and the ceremony starts at 2 p.m. City officials and Alkebu-lan leaders will celebrate the groundbreaking on the Village Marketplace, renovation of Alkebu-lan Headquarters, full residential rehab of a home, creation of Mama Eddis Park and Pollinator Garden, launch of the Eastown Village Project, establishment of The Burrell Trail Arts Alley, A2V2 Natural Playground and Pollinator Garden, and the DTE Substation Mural.
“The goal is to rebuild Baldwin, one brick, one building, one block at a time,” said Marvis Cofield, CEO of Alkebu-lan Village. Project Director Gregory McKenzie added, “These projects and this work embody our commitment to creating a community where we can live, work, and play. It would not have been possible without the support of partners like the City of Detroit.” Alkebu-lan will present awards to local community, business, and corporate partners at the ceremony.
